How ironic

October 4th, 2008 by syanoor

As we were on our way back to Kuching, my dear Abah said, if someone said you’re a good person, then you are a good person, maybe 10 times more. And vice versa.

Spring-cleaning list on FS to make sure that I will not find out more things. More things that may not be pleasant.

Happy Eid all, maaf zahir dan batin. May Allah bless us.

"Find me here
And speak to me
I want to feel you
I need to hear you
You are the light
That’s leading me to the place
Where I find peace again"

"I’m feeling alive all over again
As deep as the sky, under my skin
Like being in love, she says, for the first time
Maybe I’m wrong, I’m feeling right
Where I belong with you tonight
Like being in love to feel for the first time

We’re crashing
Into the unknown
We’re lost in this
But it feels like home"

"This is over my head
But underneath my feet
Cause by tomorrow morning I’ll have this thing beat
And everything will be back to the way that it was
I wish that it was just that easy

Cause I’m waiting for tonight
Then waiting for tomorrow
And I’m somewhere in between
What is real
Just a dream
What is real "

I don’t want to run away from this
I know that I just don’t need this

I wish the best of everything for you
hope you know that I honestly I do
how long can you run
turn your back on everyone
just let me know
when you’re tired of being alone…..

Virgo

August 29th, 2007 by syanoor

As a rule, Virgo is attracted to someone who possess
good conversation skills. They love to talk and surround themselves
with friends who are even-tempered, nonchalant, and intellectually
stimulating.

If you’re planning a date with a Virgo, try and
avoid noisy places especially with lewd or obscene entertainment. The
Virgo’s reserved nature and insistence of good taste, would get more
pleasure from a quiet restaurant with soft music playing in the
background, than from a rock and roll concert. They would prefer a
place where the two of you can talk. You’ll probably find the Virgo to
be very interesting and be able to discuss almost anything with them.

However, don’t be in a hurry to jump right in and ask too much about their personal affairs, since
they may find it to be an intrusion of privacy. It’s a rare occurrence
for a Virgo to hand out praise, so if you’re looking for constant
flattery, you may want to keep looking.

While on the contrary, if you’re looking for advice or an opinion on a certain matter, the Virgo will gladly participate.

Virgo’s
are careful planners and are constantly seeking personal achievement
and financial security. They won’t put up with frivolous spending
habits and won’t jump into a serious relationship without looking ahead
first. Most likely they are seeking a partner with practical ambitions
exactly like themselves.

Once the Virgo has found someone worthy
to share their life with, they will always be loyal and provide plenty
of happiness. This responsible, sensitive, and intellectual person
takes love very seriously.

Although they may appear aloof, and
distant at times, they are very sensual and warm people. If you win
them over, you will be more than rewarded with a prosperous and
memorable life with them.

Global Warming

June 10th, 2007 by syanoor

My team call ourselves, environmental consultants, but we still complain about the aircond in the office :P So, we contribute to global warming too…

I’m not planning to turn myself into one of those extreme environmentalist. Just to share some information I extracted from this website http://www.climatecrisis.net/thescience/

WHAT IS GLOBAL WARMING?

Carbon dioxide and other gases warm the surface of the planet naturally by trapping solar heat in the atmosphere. This is a good thing because it keeps our planet habitable. However, by burning fossil fuels such as coal, gas and oil and clearing forests we have dramatically increased the amount of carbon dioxide in the Earth’s atmosphere and temperatures are rising.

The vast majority of scientists agree that global warming is real, it’s already happening and that it is the result of our activities and not a natural occurrence.1 The evidence is overwhelming and undeniable.

We’re already seeing changes. Glaciers are melting, plants and animals are being forced from their habitat, and the number of severe storms and droughts is increasing.

The number of Category 4 and 5 hurricanes has almost doubled in the last 30 years.2
Malaria has spread to higher altitudes in places like the Colombian Andes, 7,000 feet above sea level.3
The flow of ice from glaciers in Greenland has more than doubled over the past decade.4
At least 279 species of plants and animals are already responding to global warming, moving closer to the poles.5

If the warming continues, we can expect catastrophic consequences.

Deaths from global warming will double in just 25 years — to 300,000 people a year.6
Global sea levels could rise by more than 20 feet with the loss of shelf ice in Greenland and Antarctica, devastating coastal areas worldwide.7
Heat waves will be more frequent and more intense.
Droughts and wildfires will occur more often.
The Arctic Ocean could be ice free in summer by 2050.8
More than a million species worldwide could be driven to extinction by 2050.9

There is no doubt we can solve this problem. In fact, we have a moral obligation to do so. Small changes to your daily routine can add up to big differences in helping to stop global warming. The time to come together to solve this problem is now – TAKE ACTION

1 According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), this era of global warming "is unlikely to be entirely natural in origin" and "the balance of evidence suggests a discernible human influence of the global climate."

Abbreviations in CSI

June 3rd, 2007 by syanoor

In CSI conversations, they use loads of abrreviations. My dad would ask me everytime and I would explain it to him. Here’s a list of commonly used abbreviations in CSI. If u want to know more, just google it ya..:P

  1. DNA -deoxyribonucleic acid (a nucleic acid molecule. Stores our genetic information)
  2. GC-MS - Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry ( a high tech instrumentation used in lab. very costly)
  3. ICP-MS - inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (also an equipment used in lab)
  4. SOP - Standard Operating Procedure ( self-explainatory…)

Hmmm…thats all for now.

Animal Rights - PETA

May 31st, 2007 by syanoor

I know PETA exists but never really bothered what they fight for or what they do. Just to share something I read from PETA’s web, their new achievement. Quite interesting.

BTW, PETA stands for "People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals" :P

Victory: Coca-Cola Pulls Funding for Animal Tests!

PETA is taking the food and beverage industry by storm when it comes to convincing major corporations to stop conducting and funding animal tests. Not only has PETA convinced Welch’s, Ocean Spray, POM Wonderful, and PepsiCo to end all animal experiments, but now multibillion-dollar beverage-industry giant Coca-Cola has agreed to end all its animal tests as well!

Prior to hearing from PETA, Coca-Cola had a history of conducting invasive and deadly animal experiments—including cutting open chimpanzees’ faces in order to conduct taste tests and force-feeding chemicals to rats to test “caramel color”—none of which is necessary or required by law.

Coca-Cola’s senior vice president and chief innovation and technology officer, Danny Strickland, wrote the following to PETA on May 22, 2007:

“I want to assure you that The Coca-Cola Company does not conduct animal tests and does not directly fund animal tests on its beverages. … We are sending letters to our partners and research organizations who may conduct safety evaluations on … ingredients insisting they use alternatives to animal testing, when such testing is both available and accepted by governments. We encourage the use of alternative testing methods whenever and wherever possible and financially support research to develop these alternative methods.”

Strickland also wrote to PETA concerning a deadly physiology test on sour taste reception in rats that we learned Coca-Cola was funding:

“Recently senior management became aware that research involving rats was being conducted as part of a grant we had funded at Virginia Commonwealth University to study taste reception. We have contacted the University and have discontinued our funding.”

Coca-Cola’s commitment not to fund tests on animals and its instructions to ingredient suppliers to “use alternatives to animal testing” are a sign of hope for the millions of animals who are forced to endure cruel and needless experiments every year in barren laboratory cages.

Please watch this video and refuse to buy products that are tested on animals.

Pieces of me

May 16th, 2007 by syanoor

Sometimes I work a scheme
But then it flips on me
Doesn’t turn out how I planned
Gets stucked in quick sand
No problem, can be solved
Once I get involved
I try to be delicate
Then crash right into it
My intentions are good
Sometimes just misunderstood

I got problems up to here
I’ve got people in my ear
Telling me these crazy things
That I don’t want to know

Chill out whatcha yelling for?
Lay back, it’s all been done before
And if you could only let it be
You will see

Don’t you know that I…

I don’t give a damn about you
I won’t give it up not for you
I don’t give a damn about you
I won’t give it up not for you
I’m not gonna cry about some stupid guy
A guy who thinks he’s all that

Make this rain go away
Things would be much better
I swear, I swear
If the sun would come out today
Life would be more worthwhile, much more worthwhile

Thought of the day

May 16th, 2007 by syanoor

If you don’t get what you want, you suffer;

if you get what you don’t want, you suffer;

even when you get exactly what you want, you still suffer because you can’t hold on to it forever.

Your mind is your predicament. It wants to be free of change. Free of pain, free of the obligations of life and death. But change is a law, and no amount of pretending will alter that reality.

My entry

January 30th, 2007 by syanoor

Today is last day of January 2007. Time flies…It has been a month of so many new things that I have to cope with. I didn’t have any new year resolution to start the year with. Just want to go with the flow, with some things to hold on to, of course.

As time goes by, I realised that I have indeed fulfill what I had wish for many many years ago. Went for my second degree after 2 years of working, graduated on-time (tho I nearly miss the ceremony ;)), moving out from the long-tiring-hours of smelly and tedious work in the lab and being part of the consultancy team which is of course the ’spark’ of my life now. I really do like the work that I’m doing now and the people that I work with are very helpful. I am grateful to have taken that opportunity.

Above all, I was trully blessed for being with my monkey. This is something that is beyond my control. I would want it to work out, very much, as I’d always picture it, but as the saying ‘nothing important and meaningful is ever easy’.

Whatever it is, there’s always room for new things. There’s always room to have fun too. Despite that, there is also some room for things that you believe in…

The Art of Life

January 2nd, 2007 by syanoor

No matter how we read the do’s and don’ts to face life in magazines, motivation books and ‘dummies’ books, its the experience first-hand that counts most. Rough time are meant for people whom God believe can face them. Tough time are meant for the tough ones. But how tough are we? So bound with emotions and surroundings…So full of wonderful hopes and great love. What if hopes just remain ‘hope’? And how long does love last? 1 year, 2 years? Even if it lasted, would it be a happy ending? Would it make everyone happy? A foundation of love should make everyone happy. Should put a smile to everyone’s face.

If letting go would mean making the one we love happy, I’ll learn to let go*sigh* At the time being, let me dwell with reality that I have to face. I’m still full of hopes. I’ll live life as it takes me ….
